Q & A with Fabie

I’ve now been refinishing furniture for almost 5 years.
Well, I once had a great career in finance but found that I was spending more hours at work than with my family. So I took a leap of faith and started my own business. However, not refinishing furniture but rather selling new furniture. I was a furniture broker for a couple of years until one day I had an epiphany that I could sell vintage/antique refinished furniture. This would prove to be much better for my soul and I absolutely love what I do!
I refinish with the intention of selling it unless I absolutely cannot live without it and just end up keeping it for myself. For example, all the furniture in my home has been refinished by me.
My favorite style of furniture to refinish changes pretty often! Currently, I’m completely obsessed with refinishing anything MCM. I enjoy the simplicity of the furniture design but I also love being able to transform it into a one of a kind piece by adding different elements. I normally do that by using stripes, wallpaper, decor transfers, or even adding dimension by adding wood.
I use all sorts of paints and love them differently for different projects, but my go to paints are always going to be acrylic paints, specifically Paint Couture.
Although I’ve had a few favorites of mine, there has been one beautiful chest of drawers that I adore. I painted it in a gorgeous deep green color and left two drawers without paint showcasing the beauty of the wood grain. I then added white milk knobs tying it all together.
Although I enjoy painting furniture in many fun colors, my color palette for my home and wardrobe are very subtle. My all time favorite color is blush. I also love white, tan, cream and black. Those are my go to colors for everything.
I enjoy being with my family whether I’m cooking for them, crafting with them, or going on adventures. We love to explore new places where we can experience new environments while having lots of fun!
Be inspired by anything and everything! If it’s someone else’s work but it’s out of your comfort zone still give it a try. Learning what you can do best and what style is most appealing to you will teach your creativity to expand.
My go to brush is the Zibra Chiseled Wedge. It was the first Zibra brush that I had ever used. I have grown very attached to it because of how amazing it applies paint.
