Q & A with Courtney

A little over 2 1/2 years.
At the age of 28 I received treatment for alcoholism and was fortunate enough to get a bit of a “restart” at life. I ditched bar-tending to find new ways of supporting myself...not just financially, but creatively and spiritually. I refinished for fun on the side while I launched a business making/selling natural skincare. When I eventually listed a few of my painted pieces, I was taken back by the responses! Since I found refinishing and formulating equally fulfilling, I decided to devote myself to both ventures full time. I’m incredibly blessed to create for a living!
I refinish furniture to sell. Although, I’ve always refinished pieces as if they were going in my own home (and once and a while they do!)
I’m definitely a Mid Century Modern girl. It’s a style that speaks to me most as if it were a blank canvas. You can work with the clean lines for a natural/minimal look or you can use them as a foundation for more intricate and bold designs. I love creating both.
I love experimenting, but my go-to medium is Fusion Mineral Paint. Their colors, ease of application and durability is top of the line.
I’d have to say my favorite piece is the Broyhill Brasília I painted in Eucalyptus by The Chippy Barn. I purchased the piece from a local artist I admire (Amanda from Uturn Designs), and it won the Best MCM category in the 2019 Zibra Golden Brush Awards. How special!
I’m captivated by deep, moody greens like teal and evergreen. They’re bold, yet serine.
I always love interior projects around the home...and since I recently found out that I am going to be a mom, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying designing my son’s nursery.
Yes! Not knowing, making mistakes, and failure...it’s all part of the process. No one knows how to professionally refinish furniture overnight. Set the bar high for yourself, work with gumption, be persistent and have patience...that’s the way to mastering anything.
I’m a fan of a good, small, handy brush...and the Square has it all in my mind. It’s perfect for details, edges, stenciling and basic application...not to mention it’s so easy to clean. It’s the first brush I grab for most of my projects!
