Q & A with Jeanne

For about 14 years, but my first refinished piece was in High School.
Like most people, I started refinishing things for myself.
I sell, do things for myself and gift furniture pieces to special people in my life.
ANYTHING with interesting lines. It could be modern/clean or ornate/curvy lines. Just give me all the pretty furniture!
My favorite paint is the right one for the overall finished look that I’m going for. “The right tool for the job!” as my Grandma likes to say. For a textured/blendy finish I use a chalk or milk paint like Annie Sloan, Wise Owl or Miss Mustards Seeds Milk Paint. When I’m working to achieve a clean finish, I want it super sleek- no brush strokes. I reach for a paint like General Finishes Milk Paint, Benjamin Moore Advanced or The Chippy Barn’s Amulent Decor Paint.
This is like asking to pick my favorite child Its an impossible task. It depends on the day but on this day, it’s a mahogany buffet with a hutch top. It was a fun project because I was able to make two different refinished pieces out of one, I got to try some new painting techniques and had to problem solve a few problem learning opportunities.
PINK! All the shades of it!
I enjoy thinking about refinishing furniture when I’m not refinishing furniture but seriously, I love just hanging with my people. Family and the family that I’ve chosen for myself, my friends.
I’ve learned that you’re never done learning. I think it’s so important to keep seeking out “new to you” information. There are a lot of people in this community that you can learn from just by observing. Whether it is reading their posts or blogs on how to’s and analyzing their staging and photography style. Another great source of info can come from joining furniture Facebook groups. I will utilize the search function within a group for specific things I’m wondering about. I also try to read as many posts as I can especially when people are asking for advise or troubleshooting. People tend to be very generous with their knowledge and you can learn a lot. I also enjoy researching and reading up on products, tools, techniques and best practices.
The Zibra square! It is so versatile! It’s the perfect brush for detail work, trim or getting into the corners of a raised panel drawer.
